About ClearNorth
An independent editorial desk writing plain-English money guides for Australians.
ClearNorth started in 2024 when a small group of finance writers noticed the same pattern: most money guides online exist to sell a product. We wanted something different — a place where the guide comes first and the product recommendation, if any, comes last.
We cover the topics Australians actually search at night: super fees, HECS balances, mortgage offsets, and emergency savings. The editorial desk stays independent. We may earn affiliate commissions from some links, and we say so clearly. That is the whole model.
The brand name comes from the navigator's idea that a clear heading, even a modest one, beats wandering.
Our Editorial Voice
Vera
Reader's Advocate
Vera spent years indexing financial regulations for a public library. She noticed readers leaving more confused than when they arrived. So she started rewriting the plain-language summaries herself. Now she anchors ClearNorth's editorial voice — measured, warm, and always on the reader's side. Every guide is written with Vera's question in mind: would a smart, busy person with no finance background understand this?
The Editorial Team
Four people who care about clear, honest money writing.
Priya Subramanian
Founding Editor
Priya spent eight years writing consumer finance explainers for national publications before founding ClearNorth. She sets the editorial standards and reviews every guide before it goes live.
Tom Gallagher
Research Lead
Tom tracks Australian regulatory changes, super fund disclosures, and lending rule updates. He flags when a guide needs refreshing and writes the comparison category notes.
Anneliese Koch
Plain-Language Writer
Anneliese trained as a technical writer before moving into consumer finance. She is responsible for rewriting complex legislation into the plain paragraphs readers actually finish.
Marcus Yee
Digital Producer
Marcus handles the quiz tools, site accessibility, and mobile layout. He also maintains the editorial calendar and ensures guides are updated after regulatory changes.
